Arana began her career as an early elementary classroom teacher in California. Upon moving to NYC, Arana became a founding faculty member at The School at Columbia University where she transitioned to work as an educational technologist, teacher mentor and curriculum developer. Arana was the Executive Director of the non profit, Institute of Play. The Institute of Play provided professional development and consulting services to schools and organizations interested in bringing game based learning to their classrooms. During her work at Institute of Play she helped to launch and lead Quest to Learn, a district 6-12 school in Chelsea.
